I hope to use this blog as a journal to record, and share, my experiences during a trip to India with my father (Hugh) in September of 2009. The occasion for this trip is the dedication of a new gymnasium, named after my uncle Winston (Win) Mumby, at Woodstock School in northern India. My father and uncle Win attended Woodstock during grade and high school, and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Woodstock for my senior year in high school, graduating in 1969 (see High School in India). We will be traveling with my cousin Lynn Mumby Proehl, Win’s daughter.
It’s hard to grasp the fact that it’s been 40 years since I was in India. I wanted to go back to visit many times over the years. Between college, graduate school, and jobs, I just never found the right time for such a long trip. The dedication ceremony provided the perfect excuse to revisit a place where I spent an amazing year, and an opportunity to share another adventure with my father. He turns 83 this year and I don’t know how many more chances we’ll have. My only regret is that my wife Susanne can’t make the trip due to a prior commitment. Hopefully, we’ll visit India together in the not too distant future.
